Bodean's BBQ - Soho Description
This relatively new edition to Soho makes a welcome change, by providing the area with the UK's first and only smokehouse restaurant, for that authentic and unmistakable barbeque flavour.
By day the upstairs dining area makes an informal lunchtime spot with their infamous Boston butt sandwich, packed full of carefully slowly smoked (12 hours actually) cooked pork, served with fries and coleslaw.
By night however, the more lavish downstairs rib room is the place to be. Here you'll find a pleasing décor consisting of a bright tartan carpet and snug booth style seating, with current North American Sporting Events on the television screens to keep you entertained.
House specialities from the wood-burning smoke-pit oven include baby back, spare or beef ribs or barbeque chicken and combo feasts such as a quarter of chicken served with a portion of baby back ribs and their special pulled pork. Other alternatives on the menu include shrimp jambalaya, or top quality melt-in-the-mouth fillet steaks with chipotle butter and jumbo gamba shrimps.
All meals are excellent value for money, especially for such superb organic ingredients. The dessert list is short but very sweet with the likes of freshly made key lime, pecan and apple pies that really hit the spot. The drinks list includes eight different types of Bloody Mary's alone, alongside an excellent choice of other cocktails and wine. With such a winning combination Bodean's is sure to become a Soho favourite in no time.
Bodean's can cater for all size parties subject to the restaurants restrictions in size and peak times; minimum number to organise a party is eight guests. The venue can also be booked out for a hiring fee, and depending on the day of the week, a minimum average spend. It would be best for you to contact them directly at the branch with your party briefing and requirements. Ground Floor Deli can take up to 45 guests and the Basement Restaurant has a capacity of 75 guests.
It is extremely difficult to quote an exact Av Cost per Head, as, though it is difficult to spend a lot on a meal unless you drink a lot, it is easy to eat very reasonably, and for less than the figures quoted.

What a great American/BBQ restaurant. OK, so you may not be impressed with what you see when you first walk into the joint, but don’t let the upstairs high tables and uncomfortable-looking stools put you off the food. Besides, if you wait until 18:00, you can be seated in the more comfortable downstairs dining room. The menus upstairs and downstairs are slightly different, but I didn’t figure out why…maybe they’re trying to offset the funky upstairs seating with more menu options (full dinner menu as opposed to ala carte downstairs). Personally, I prefer the downstairs ala carte because that way if I want to pig out on just BBQ beef ribs and have nothing else, I can. Pig out is what I felt that I did even though I only had the half portion. Just the smell of the BBQ sauce was enough to get my mouth salivating and I was not let down by the BBQ beef ribs. When I finished, there wasn’t any meat left anywhere on those bones, but then I did eat them American-style (using my fingers). I had a side of onion rings and my mouth wanted more of those as well. The brownie I had for dessert was fab. No wonder I felt like an over-stuffed chair when I left!
The service was also great. I had a young black girl who was cheerful, funny, and very service-oriented so I rewarded her well. I had booked ahead, but at 6 p.m. it probably wasn’t necessary; later on, it would definitely have been required because there were a good number of “booked” tables waiting for people and all of the others were full, although there were still places to sit in the street-level eating area. Whether you just want a quick meal of good, old-fashioned American food (they do all sorts, but especially BBQ) or a nicer sit-down evening meal (or even a take away), this is the place to go. As Arnie said, “I’ll be back!” Sandi (ex-pat from California)
