Bombay Bicycle Club Description

Presumably somebody thought the Indian Cavalry Club in Edinburgh had it their own way for too long, but if that is the case they are wide of the mark. The BBC is your ordinary, straightforward curry house with no frills, good food and it bears little or no resemblance to the ICC which for many is in a class of its own.

There is the customary wide range of dishes, though beware of the strength of some of the offerings which are way beyond what true Indian cooking is about. We often do ourselves a disservice in Britain by subscribing to the view that to be good a curry must go through the unfortunate recipient with the strength of an industrial purgative.

Many of the dishes at BBC have the real quality of Indian cooking which is a blending of flavours and spices with sensitivity and it is in that direction that they should concentrate their efforts if they wish to compete with the more successful Asian restaurants in Edinburgh.

Your Reviews of Bombay Bicycle Club

Tero (1 December 2007)

It tells something about a restaurant that it is practically empty on Friday at 9 pm. The food was very intermediate, you'd expect as good from a local take away anytime. Prices are not high but in relation to quality too high. You'll receive the same much cheaper elsewhere. For example samosa had still almost frozen peas in it. The service was not bad but didn't impress either.

Martin W (27 November 2007)

The rather gimmicky name nearly put us off, but we were following a recommendation and were not disappointed. The service was prompt and friendly, with plenty of speciality dishes on the menu as well as the usual bhunas and kormas etc. The staff were quite happy to adjust the heat of dishes that appealed but looked either too spicy or mild. The starters were fresh and crisp, the mains plentiful and well sauced with virtually no excess ghee. Go easy on the breads, though - delicious they are, but very substantial. Overall the BBC exceeds expectations, is much better than average and definitely a place worth seeking out in Edinburgh if you're after a good curry.
