Boot, The Description
The Boot at Soulbury provides all the traditional values of inn keeping, good food, real ales, fine wines and a warm welcome. It was the first Nicholl's Country Inn. The Nicholl's team arrived in May 2001 and renovated the interior to create a fresh, comfortable atmosphere.
Within days of opening, word had spread about food at The Boot - especially the superb 'sea blackboards' with daily deliveries of fabulous fresh fish, being their speciality. On any day the fish boards can include, sea bass, bream, yellow tailed snapper, baby Dover sole, halibut or tuna steaks. These are served whole or as fillets and cooked lightly on the griddle with the Chef's butter of the day.
The main menu offers modern British food using fresh, seasonal produce. In addition to this menu, there is also a light lunch selection and a daily choice of imaginative chef's specials.
The Bar at The Boot is open everyday, lunches are served between 12 and 2.30 pm (Sunday lunch until 4pm) and evening meals served from 6.30 pm until last orders at 9.30 pm. The extensive wine list at The Boot hosts over 35 wines and champagnes, all available served by the glass.
The Boot encourages dining "al fresco" dining during the summer months on their newly built extensive decking with beautiful views over the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside.
Your Reviews of Boot, The
Dawn (23 February 2008)
For a restaurant promising an array of fresh fish and tempting seafood delights, I was sorely disappointed with both the menu and what was served. From a rustic blackboard menu consisting of little more than six starters and six main courses, I choose the traditional option of prawn cocktail, followed by salmon fishcakes. Whilst the prawn cocktail was palatable, it was some what over-priced for what it delivered and when I questioned if there was wasabi or horseradish in the sauce, the waitress returned the verdict that it was 'just prawn cocktail sauce'.
The fishcakes however, were very pleasing and worth the £10 or so that we paid for them. The dessert was the real disappointment. A chocolate brownie with clotted cream ice-cream was full of promise, but the actual delivery was more like crumbly chocolate sawdust mixed with walnuts. After an attempt to dowse it in moisture with the limited ice-cream and chocolate sauce, I resigned my efforts and passed the plate to my food-waste conscious boyfriend.Very disappointing for a restaurant that just six months previously delivered us a marvellous lunch full of flavour and promise!

Eaten at the Boot on and off for the last three years, never had a bad experience. Staff are good, food is good, ambiance good. The standard menu has something for everybody with generous portions and there is always something to entice on the specials board.
