Boxwood Cafe at The Berkeley Description

Opened in May 2003, Gordon's Boxwood Café is Gordon Ramsay's - the man with a mission to run fine dining out in London for the Savoy Group - take on an upscale New York-style café with an emphasis on a more relaxed approach to dining and service.

Gordon's Boxwood Café is a 120 seater restaurant open everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner - this represents a new departure for Gordon Ramsay. Hopefully, what will still be very much in evidence will be the same exacting standards and pursuit of excellence closely associated with Gordon Ramsay. Their aim is that the simplest of dishes such as salads, sandwiches and ice creams should become truly memorable.

Gordon Ramsay says that he feels that he has developed café cuisine to its highest standards by offering seasonal dishes to a wider range of clientele. With head chef Stuart Gillies (ex-Daniel's in New York and Le Caprice), Gordon Ramsay presents a very different menu in stylish surroundings designed by Barbara Barry, the acclaimed Californian designer.

A la carte selections include starters of fried oysters with fennel and lemon; roast duck foie gras with peach, spring onion and ginger; chilled melon soup with parma ham and basil oil; salads with spider crab, squid and borlotti beans, baby artichokes and Parmesan fried courgette flowers with serrano ham. Gordon's Boxwood Café sandwiches boast a lobster roll with a Thousand Island dressing and a cold roast suckling pig open sandwich with coleslaw and rocket. Desserts, a passion of any Gordon Ramsay menu, display sugared doughnuts cooked to order and served with yoghurt ice cream and a poppyseed knickerbocker glory. Many of the labels from the Gordon's Boxwood Café's extensive wine list are available by the glass.

Your Reviews of Boxwood Cafe at The Berkeley

Lorraine (1 February 2008)

I completely disagree with the fact they do not cater for vegetarians - the ravioli of Italian winter squash was to die for as was the starter of beetroot salad. I found the service to be excellent, attentive without being overbearing. Overall, a most enjoyable lunch and I will definitely be going back.

Grace (21 January 2008)

We went for a pre-theatre meal at the Boxwood recently, but unfortunately we only had time for two courses and a coffee. The food was lovely – fresh and tasty. I highly recommend the lobster risotto. The service was attentive, without being overbearing. I would definitely go back.
