Brasserie & Wine Bar Toulouse Lautrec
140 Newington Butts, Kennington, London, SE11 4RN
Adding a healthy dose of French flair to the suburb of Kennington is Toulouse Lautrec, a traditional brasserie and wine bar set inside a lovingly refurbished English pub. But there is plenty of authentic Gallic charm on offer at this venue in the form of the décor and staff. Set over two levels, the warm and inviting space is divided into a rustic ground floor brasserie and an upstairs wine bar with live jazzy piano music every evening. There is also a smoking terrace. Hit the right starting notes with homemade terrine of foie gras flavoured with Argmanac and port, served with pain d'epices and fig chutney. Get into rhythm by ordering grilled bavette steak and fresh Scottish scallops, lightly pan fried with pied blue wild mushrooms and dill and Vermouth sauce.Adding a healthy dose of French flair to the suburb of Kennington is Toulouse Lautrec, a traditional brasserie and wine bar set inside a lovingly refurbished English pub. REVIEWS OF Brasserie & Wine Bar Toulouse Lautrec
John Hamer (20 October 2010)
Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec is probably one of the best restaurants to go to. This is my third visit at the Brasserie. We were always welcomed with open arms. I am new to the area and proud that I made the right move. The Brasserie holds this unique French charm - maybe it’s the food, the service, the live music or the French speaking waitresses. Whatever it is the combination of all these made the experience warm unlike many contemporary restaurants where you feel unwelcomed. I had tried a few dishes already so far the cote de boeuf for two was wonderfully cooked to perfection. The lamb was my partner’s favourite dish as it was cooked for twenty-four hours. I sometimes wonder how it becomes so tender. I have to admit although all of the dishes I tried looked and tasted delicious, I find the menu somewhat limited in fish options. As for dessert, the choc fondant is to die for with white chocolate ice cream. Every evening there is live jazz music in the wine bar on the first floor. This is great for me and my wife to enjoy a night out with a hearty meal after a hard days work. The smoking terrace is another bonus as well as the Victorian style toilets. Our next visit might be in the private dining room where there is no hire fee apparently.
