Brasserie Gerard - Farnham

We made a late booking on a Friday night, and crossed our fingers that the meal would be good as we had just come back from France where the food is always good. We were not disappointed; they have got the authenticity that seems to be missing from almost all 'foreign' restaurants. We all chose the fried squid to start with, and it was cooked perfectly - not an easy task, as it's generally always over cooked and rubbery. We chose to eat off the set menu, the steak cost extra, but it was worth every penny. The turkey had fabulous flavours and the salmon was succulent and tasty. The puds were also fabulous. There is a 'plat du jour' on the wall, so you can indulge in your favourite meal at what would appear to be a more reasonable cost as it's the 'special' that day. The red wine was divine. I think the fact that they served it at room temperature made all the difference, it's always served too cold in England where as in France the weather is warmer, so the wine is too and it definitely enhances the flavour. It was an expensive meal, as they charge extra for vegetables and salads on the side, but so enjoyable that we have booked for a couple of week’s time for another treat. We spent £99 for three people, but that included a good bottle of wine and sparkling water.

We recently eat at Chez Gerard for my birthday and were very pleasantly surprised. The ambience of the restaurant is lovely with nice soft lighting. The Manager was very hands-on and very helpful, as was our waiter. The food and service were very good - a little expensive as you have to pay extra for vegetables for most courses but overall, a very nice evening and I have booked to go back already.
