Brasserie, La Description
A long established member of Cardiff's eating scene. Sister to the well known Le Monde restaurant, but with a more casual bistro feel. The terrace is a welcome addition to the restaurant in the summer and the new menu offers a range of salads, grills and snacks.
La France is alive and well in Wales. The basic idea is that you select your steak or items of seafood tastefully displayed on the slab and mosey across to the chef's department. They will either interpret your wishes or make suggestions of their own, and you can observe whilst they get on with the job. Dishes are therefore largely as you would have them.
A well-travelled wine list re-establishes the duties of the proprietor and house wine starts at £11.99. This is a good eating option at prices that almost anybody can afford; while the two course lunch at £7.95 is extremely good value.

La Brasserie has got a new lunch menu or terrace menu. It's really good and offers some light meals as opposed to the a la carte, which you need to go to the counter for. Salads are light and there is even a burger on the menu, which comes with La Brasserie’s famous chips. This is a great place to go for lunch when the sun is shining and you can sit on the fabulous terrace. They are offering a two for one on the terrace menu next week!

This is probably the most pretentious restaurant in Cardiff - very expensive for nothing special. I don't know if the menu has changed since I was there two years ago but you had to order your meat and veggie separately. Since the steak costs around £12, I would expect some veggie to be included! I then had to order separate potato options. We're talking about £17 here altogether. The meat arrived first, went cold whilst I waited for veggie and potato. The wine was corked. I think this is more of a place for 'hanging out'. The atmosphere was dull and drinks were very expensive. Other much better reasonably priced restaurants in Cardiff are honest and friendly.
