Bruno's Brasserie Description
Bruno's is one of the many small restaurants that populate Cambridge, providing a range of relatively cheap eating houses for an allegedly impecunious student body. Committed fans speak highly of its quality.
Starters of confit of duck spring rolls with a fig and cardamom compote, and chilli salt squid with saffron aioli are not unusual. For mains a salad of rare beef with Thai dressing, a sea bass graced with fennel, tomato and garlic, or slow-roasted pork belly can hit the button. Venison is also on the menu from time to time.
The chocolate mousse with a tuille of caramel with sesame and poppy seeds, was complemented by an excellent vanilla ice cream accompaniment.
Service is rumoured to sometimes be a touch eccentric, but maybe that suits a university town!

Your Reviews of Bruno's Brasserie
Martin Jennings (27 April 2007)
I have just returned from an evening at your establishment with a large party of fourteen. It was my first and very likely my only visit to Bruno's.
The service was pretty dire. We had to request, the wine list, butter, water, sugar (refined), in fact anything that wasn't written down! The time taken to take our order was inordinately long, as was the time it took for the first course to arrive. Time between courses was good.
I like a few others, had the King prawn starter and we were all very disappointed. The prawns were more akin to shrimp, there were only three in number and the pathetic looking salad that accompanied it was little more than a garnish in taste and quantity.
The disparity in the portion sizes was noted with the mains, as my pork belly pieces amounted to about 2/3rds that of the other two plates of the same dish! Similarly there was precious little salmon amongst the pasta for the vegetarian.
The pork was delicious, as were the accompanying vegetables, though the flavours were not so rich to allow the portions to be reduced as one would find in Midsummer House for example or even slightly better restaurants than this.
At £40 a head you are over priced and over rated and had it not been a friend’s birthday I would have walked out after the starter!
