Bugis Street Brasserie

Millennium Gloucester Hotel London Kensington, Courfield Road, London, SW7 4LH

Bugis Street in Singapore has an interesting history behind it, named after seafaring merchants from the Island of Sulawesi in Indonesia; it was once well-known for its notoriety. Today its namesake brasserie, within the pleasant confines of Millennium Gloucester Hotel London Kensington, does nothing to recall this once infamous street, but assures diners in every way that a meal there could only mean focusing on the sublime and charming aspects of the cuisines from the aforementioned countries. So for starters it could be a Bugis Street platter of seaweed, vegetable spring rolls, spare ribs, prawns on toast and chicken satay, and then the chef's recommended Cantonese and Szechuan dishes such as Taiwanese style chicken served in a hot pot, and steamed fillet of salmon with black bean paste.

The meat repertoire includes the delicious sweet and sour pork, stir-fried beef with ginger and spring onions, and Chinese roast duck.

The oriental drinks list at Bugis Street Brasserie deserves more than a passing glance with sake, lychee liquor and plum wine.
