I found this place by pure chance on a Bank holiday Monday and have to say that I was very impressed by the swift service, friendly staff and fantastic food. After reading the recent review I felt the need to express how much I enjoyed my meal, which coincidentally was on the very same day. I would, and have recommended this place to friends and colleagues alike. My beef was cooked to pure perfection and the vegetables were delightful. Well worth a visit.

My husband and I took a Chinese academic colleague to the Bullfinch early in the year and were really impressed by the exceptional food and service. When my eminent author parents came to visit from America and wanted to see Knole, it was the obvious choice but what a mistake! On Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime, despite us having booked, everyone was served before us, the roast duck was dry and the vegetables almost inedible as they were so overcooked; even the snap peas were wrinkled. We were also served, as our young and good-natured waiter admitted, later than many people who arrived after us, though he couldn't explain why. The manager accepted that I was right, and took something off of the bill, but nowhere near enough to compensate for the very slow service and hugely disappointing food. Most normal pubs would have done better, frankly, and the Bullfinch aspires to be a gastropub.
