Burnsey Eat Drink

We've been to Burnsey Eat Drink a few times and have to say we keep trying other places and always end up returning. The restaurant is on three levels and is very close to the conference centre - less than a five minute walk from Betty's. There's a bar downstairs where you get drinks and order, then you're shown upstairs to your table. The food is simply great - that's one big reason for going. The atmosphere is not dull or noisy and a good mix of people, which always suits me and my hubby and the staff and the owner are very attentive but not at all overbearing. You've got to try the chef's table. I don't think they do this on any other night than Saturday, but that's when you want to go anyway, when it's busy. If you like watching TV cookery shows and interested in what goes on in a working kitchen, then this is right up your street. The table is in the corner of the kitchen, it's a bit compact in there and fairly warm, you sit next to some ventilation so you're okay, but you're not in there for luxury, you're there to watch the show. I also think this is a clear signal that they're proud of what goes on in the place and have nothing to hide - you certainly learn a lot and the staff, including the head chef will explain things to you as long as it's not absolutely mentally busy. Oh and it's really good when you place your order and the chef looks over and asks just exactly how you want that steak to be cooked – brilliant.

The fare is pretty mixed, lots to choose and if you're vegetarian or vegan, as some of my friends are, and they're very good at those dishes too. We're carnivores and you'll not be disappointed with the meat and fish dishes. I'm not usually a steak person but theirs is to die for. My hubby reckons the scallops are worth the trip alone. This is one of those places we just 'dropped in' and we feel really lucky to have done so. We booked online and they rang back to confirm the booking five minutes after we'd sent it.

What a fabulous place! We had an evening meal there on Friday. The owner and staff are friendly and make you feel so welcome. Our waiter Tony was lovely and even put up with our drunken chatter. The food was great and they even allowed us to take our cheese and crackers home as we'd had ordered too much. All the best to everyone and we will definitely be back. Thanks.
