But 'n' Ben Restaurant
1 Auchmithie, nr Arbroath, DD11 5SQ
Every so often one comes across a trace of paradise and But 'n' Ben is a wonderful example. Not far out of Arbroath in two gently refashioned cottages you can enjoy the traditional Smokies in various mouth-watering manifestations. It must almost go without saying that ingredients are known almost to which part of the ocean they emanated from, everything is wonderfully fresh, and one can eat with confidence and enjoyment. Nor are the carnivores neglected and the local abattoir (yes, there are a few surviving) facilitates quality beef. Homemade jams, chutneys and Scots baking further enhance the essential homeliness of this delightful place. Thirty-strong wine list with house wine at £9.Every so often one comes across a trace of paradise and But 'n' Ben is a wonderful example. REVIEWS OF But 'n' Ben Restaurant
Lady Compton (3 November 2011)
Chose this restaurant having read the reviews. However I was bitterly disappointed. Food very ordinary and overcooked. Down market little place - the only charm I suppose is that it is a converted cottage very small which is difficult for talking without being overheard. The food is plain and our meal was unremarkable. Would not return. Arbroath the nearest town is very small and perhaps this is one of the few restaurants where locals can go out to eat which is perhaps why this ordinary little place gets good reviews or perhaps its just reveiwd by those who are not FOODIES!! But on the other hand it is cheap and that is reflected in teh quality of the food.

First introduced to this fabulous restraurant two years ago by my Wifes mothers friend who has eaten there for many years and supplies them with the best ground coffee and tea from Braithwaithes of Dundee,I have eaten all over the world, but this must be one of the best
