Cader Restaurant Description
The Minffordd Hotel in Talyllyn Valley, Mid Wales is set in some of the most breathtaking scenery in Britain, it is situated at the base of the Cader Idris with the summit being one and a half miles North West of the hotel. The original parts of the building are over 400 years old so as you would expect the walls are very thick and there are plenty of originally features such as the original wood beams which can be seen through out the building and the log fire is a key feature during the winter months.
The Cader Restaurant is open to non residents and serves excellent freshly prepared food using local Welsh suppliers and products; they do get very busy during weekends especially as their reputation grows, and the menu changes every day.
A typical dinner might commence with a choice of a trio of smoked salmon terrines with lemon dressed mixed leaves; rustic venison pate with warm toast and red onion marmalade or Cardigan Bay mussels cooked in white wine, cream and parsley.
Main dishes could offer grilled fillet of sea bass with a fennel and tarragon cream sauce; Aga roast Welsh lamb shank with grain mustard mash and red wine sauce or red pepper, leek and mushroom risotto with parmesan shavings, all served with potatoes and vegetables of the day or a mixed salad.
Finishing with bara brith and Welsh butter pudding with butterscotch sauce; poached pear with warm chocolate and baileys sauce with vanilla ice cream or a summer fruit pudding with lemon crème anglaise.

Your Reviews of Cader Restaurant

My boyfriend and I were staying in Tywyn and decided to do some research on restaurants in the area. Being avid foodies, this is the only restaurant we came up within our search. We both had mussels to start, which were lovely and locally sourced. The gentleman serving us was also the owner of the hotel-restaurant and he was very friendly and happy to discuss both the food and the history of the building which is 400 years old. For mains I had the lamb, which was tender, on a bed of mash mixed with leeks, which was amazing, with a gravy that was not great in quantity, but it made up for this in flavour so I was not left wanting. My boyfriend had the salmon which came with a delicate creamy sauce and a similar mash to that which came with the lamb; this was all very good, although the portions definitely erred on the greedy side. For puddings we had the bread and butter pudding which was a culinary delight and a cheese board which was the least exciting dish of the meal, however, it was not bad. This was topped off with a nice cup of coffee. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone walking or holidaying in the area.
