Cafe Balzac
4 Wood Lane, London, W12 7DT
Cafe Balzac was re-born in November 2007 updating the Balzac Bistro setting to blend with the changing nature of Shepherd's Bush. Now a more Italian influenced menu, the simple but chic dishes on the lunch and dinner menu provide a new quality to the local eating scene. Starters might include assiette de charcuterie - a selection of cured hams - or tricolore salad with mozzarella, tomato and avocado. Pasta dishes like pumpkin tortellini with tomato and basil; porcini ravioli with pancetta and cream; home made lasagna or penne all'arabiata are popular and inexpensive, whilst mains offer grilled breast of chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce; grilled rib-eye steak or lamb cutlets in rosemary sauce, all served with potatoes of the day.Cafe Balzac was re-born in November 2007 updating the Balzac Bistro setting to blend with the changing nature of Shepherd's Bush. REVIEWS OF Cafe Balzac
Clare (28 May 2008)
This place is a real find! A great little restaurant with excellent food and some interesting wines, even the house wines are very good. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. There is a great choice of dishes - all delicious and reasonably priced. A great night out that doesn’t break the bank!

We ate there last night and I have to say this place is a real find. It's highly unusual to find a place in London, which combines genuine quality and originality with value for money - but this place somehow manages to do it. I think this is more of a bistro or brasserie type of place. The menu is completely varied. I had battered frog's legs for an entrée, an excellent Gazpacho soup to follow, and salmon and crab fishcakes for mains. My companion thought his bruschetta for starter was excellent, and I could barely get more than a grunt out of him while he was stuffing down his main course of coq au vin, pancetta mash and vegetables. The whole bill, including a couple of beers, came to £28 for the both of us. We didn't try desserts as we were both stuffed, but the selection looked excellent and good value.
The ambience was relaxed and non-pretentious, and the service was just how I like it - attentive and efficient without them buzzing round you all night. This place has a small bar section too. I will definitely go back.

With quality food, friendly staff, quick service and excellent value for money, Nando's is a great place to eat. Don't expect identikit, pre-fab restaurant interiors which are usually a staple of the larger chains; each restaurant is tailored to its local surroundings and customers, offering up a unique restaurant experience to go with the equally unique taste of legendary, Portuguese, Peri-Peri chicken.
