Cafe Belge - West Malling

We went to Cafe Belge on a Friday evening and booked a table for four. The mussels were fine but not impressed by the service though. After we ate the mussels the table wasn't cleared except for the mussel bowls. We were immediately asked if we wanted a dessert to which we said yes and ordered. We ate the deserts surrounded by our dirty paper napkins, you just get one each, and empty wrappers for the wet wipes and the dirty wet wipes and a table, which was rather wet from the mussels. I did mention this at the end of the meal, but apparently it is not their policy to clean tables and they never do this unless you ask specifically. To anyone going there, I would say check your bill when it arrives. They print the bills nicely which is a plus; we had drinks on our bill, which we never ordered or drank! Also the 10% tip was added on in ink. I would also recommend that you ask not to have the table on the left as you go in as it is right by the door and when people come in it is often left open and you get a terrific draught. This means a constant getting up to shut it, unless you don't mind freezing when you sit in the first area as you go in the main door. An automatic shutting device would be good.

We dined on a busy Saturday night – very good service and food with some excellent beer, we tried many but not all of them. My wife had a piece of perfectly cooked sea bass and I had a steak, which was again cooked to perfection. The homemade sticky toffee pudding was a delight and the toffee sauce was perfect. We will go back soon.
