Café Ceres is a textbook example of a small, friendly café-bistro sheltered from the buzz of mainstream city life. You may just about miss this place owning to its non-descript exterior but inside it's really so much more - for a start there are four different menus to choose from.

The no-frills cooking is certainly a hit and Welsh rarebit with free range poached eggs, croissant served with jam and pain au chocolat stand out in the daytime menu. In the evening the kitchen turns out some homely rustic fare such as carrot and ginger soup, pan-fried duck breast à l'orange and pork chops in mustard sauce with gratin dauphinois and vegetables. Special courses of croque monsieur or madame, cheese and ham toastie should help you get a bit closer to France and finally desserts of crêpes with flambéed bananas and chocolate sauce, strawberry tartelette and crème brûlée declare the end of a satisfying meal.
