Cafe des Amis
95 St Dunstan's Street, Canterbury, CT2 8AD
Not exactly the sort of restaurant one would necessarily expect to find in the home base of England's leading cleric, but then again, why not? Perhaps an occasional escape to a lively and vibrant atmosphere is what Canterbury's denizens and visitors had on their wish list. Cafe des Amis welcomes diners into a friendly and warm atmosphere surrounded by vivacious colours and vibrant Latin music. The menu draws not only on the exotic and earthy flavours of ancient Mexico but also on fresh and healthy ingredients from the Mediterranean, especially French and Spanish cuisines. Expect calamari chips with chilli prawn salsa, hot goats' cheese tostada and truffled chestnut mushroom quesadilla along with the likes of crispy duck confit with molé sauce, chicken and roast vegetable burrito or fillet steak fajitas. The menu draws not only on the exotic and earthy flavours of ancient Mexico but also on fresh and healthy ingredients from the Mediterranean, especially French and Spanish cuisines. REVIEWS OF Cafe des Amis
Linda Meise (28 October 2010)
I had dinner at Cafe des Amis a few months' ago and the food was of a very high standard. I had booked for 9PM and was called to say I could come half an hour earlier if I wished which was great and we did. The atmosphere was buzzing but not pressured and we really enjoyed our time there. I am hoping to take my daughter for her 18th birthday in November but I must make sure I book in advance!

We visited Café des Amis last Sunday and were utterly impressed. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, the staff were friendly and we received our food quickly. The menu has plenty to choose from and having chosen the seafood sharing patter for starters my taste buds were set alive by the mixture of delicious flavours. For my main course I had paella, which not only arrived beautifully presented but also tasted beautiful! My partner chose the lamb stew, which arrived with rice and salsa, this also was delicious.
By this point both of us were completely stuffed, with no room left for dessert, although a sneeky peek at the dessert menu revealed some options that sounded tasty. The total bill including our food and two drinks each, came to £46, which was totally reasonable in our opinion, we then received a 50% student discount, bringing our entire meal down to just a mere £23! I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food, good ambience and excellent service.
