Cafe in the Crypt at St Martin
Trafalgar Square, Duncannon Street, London, WC2N 4JJ
With its unique setting in the crypt of London's famous and imposing St Martin-in-the- Fields church, the Café in the Crypt is an interesting place in which to relax and re-fuel the inner being. Its close proximity to Trafalgar Square certainly attracts plenty of tourists but the crowd is still varied, and the feel of the place very special with rosy red brick vaulted ceilings and historic gravestones lining the crypt floor. The food here is pretty basic, easy on the wallet, and rightly popular with students. Drop by for an afternoon tea with scones, jam, Cornish clotted cream, and a slice of Madeira cake and double chocolate fudge cake with tea or coffee. Those who'd appreciate a buffet at lunchtime will be thrilled by the choices; garlic and basil griddled chicken, homemade Scotch eggs and caramelised goats' cheese and onion tarts. With its unique setting in the crypt of London's famous and imposing St Martin-in-the- Fields church, the Café in the Crypt is an interesting place in which to relax and re-fuel the inner being. REVIEWS OF Cafe in the Crypt at St Martin
Southerner in London (18 March 2009)
A couple of colleagues and I went to the Cafe in the Crypt in March 2002 and had a fabulous time. It was one of the best meals I had in London at a very reasonable price. Another thing worth mentioning is that I picked up a couple of great souvenirs for friends back home in the gift shop adjacent to the cafe. Extra benefit: proceeds to go the programs of the church. It's a MUST stop for Yanks in London.
Minty-apple from Harlow (30 September 2006)
Ate at the Cafe in the Crypt last night, very impressed. We had one hour to eat before our show began so the self service aspect was perfect. Nice glass of wine, hot meal of good quality and very tasty for £11 in fabulous surroundings! Can't go wrong really. Also, if you've got time visit the shop in the crypt, indulge in a little retail therapy - nice gifts!
