With its unique setting in the crypt of London's famous and imposing St Martin-in-the- Fields church, the Café in the Crypt is an interesting place in which to relax and re-fuel the inner being. Its close proximity to Trafalgar Square certainly attracts plenty of tourists but the crowd is still varied, and the feel of the place very special with rosy red brick vaulted ceilings and historic gravestones lining the crypt floor.

The food here is pretty basic, easy on the wallet, and rightly popular with students. Drop by for an afternoon tea with scones, jam, Cornish clotted cream, and a slice of Madeira cake and double chocolate fudge cake with tea or coffee. Those who'd appreciate a buffet at lunchtime will be thrilled by the choices; garlic and basil griddled chicken, homemade Scotch eggs and caramelised goats' cheese and onion tarts.

The all-important meal of the day comes in the form of a full English or continental version, so tuck into some delicious breakfast before heading out for the day.
