Your Reviews of Cafe Remos

Mike Richardson (1 September 2009)

This is an oasis in a desert. We were in that area on a Bank Holiday Sunday and decided to go out for the evening for something to eat. We were recommended by someone to try this place out. The night was dark, windy, and rainy when we arrived there, and four other tables taken by diners. It was a bit unusual to order as we had to go up to the counter, however, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff were very friendly. The food was absolutely second to none. I had a chilli-con-carne burger - burgers were homemade. The burger was lovely, very meaty well seasoned and reputed to be from local Welsh beef - which I believe was true. My daughter also had a burger meal which was of similar quality. My son had a pizza which was just like my mother used to make, and my wife had a lovely penne pasta dish which she said was the nicest she had ever eaten. The prices were reasonable, the food was of excellent quality and the staff were lovely. I feel I must apologise for saying that this was an oasis in a desert. Aberavon is no longer the prettiest of places having had its largest sand dunes in Europe removed for a housing estate in the 50's and the Port Talbot steel works. But, there is an inner beauty to the place. The immaculately clean beach has a surreal quality about it, and the light is reminiscent of a Suffolk sky, and the silhouette of the Corus steelworks adds to this. The people of this area seem very friendly and I will use this opportunity to say that the hotel we stayed at was also of a very good standard. The highlight however was Café Remos. If you are travelling on the M4 past Port Talbot, drive off the motorway and try this place out. This is the first time I have ever written a review about a restaurant.
