Cafe St. Honore Description

Discreetly tucked away in one of the New Town's secretive little alleys, Le Café has been described as 'Edinburgh on a plate'. This gastronomic tribute to the ancient entente cordiale as applied to Scotland is entirely merited for here the best of Scottish and French cooking blend to ensure a steady stream of enthusiasts, not to say connoisseurs, beating a path to the doors of Le Café.

Scotland's main contribution is the wonderfully fresh produce that comes from the waters, fields and hills of that blessed country. There is nothing over-fancy about the cooking but good, honest dishes of considerable capacity are devoured with huge enjoyment.

The staff are lovely and do more than their share towards making a meal there enjoyable. The wine list is chosen and priced in a manner that encourages wise drinking, including a good number of house wines from £14.50.

Fixed Dinner

  • £16 (2 courses) to £21 (3 courses), 5.30 - 6.45 pm

Your Reviews of Cafe St. Honore

Mary Turner. Author (5 September 2008)

To celebrate my friend's 65th birthday four of us booked a meal at Cafe St. Honore. The food was faultless but our night was ruined by the rudeness of the staff. We were told to vacate our table as we had been there two and a half hours. The bill had been paid and we were just about to order drinks when we were approached. There were no one waiting to be seated so where was the problem?

You would think that chorizo with scallops would kill the latter stone dead, but not in this chef's skilled hands. The starter was memorable and brilliantly balanced. I'm sure the main course was a delight because I seemed to mop it all up but was still bathing in the glow of the scallops. I have eaten there five times now and every time I am more impressed, not just by the food but by the romantic ambience, the friendly and efficient service and the reasonable prices for such a great evening.
