Cafe Strudel

Café Strudel on Upper Richmond Street was started with the aim of bringing warm Austrian hospitality to the area by serving cakes and coffee all day long. Their mainstay is 'Weiner Küche', a culinary bouquet of sugar, butter, roasted almonds and baked savouries, which has been in jest, likened to the British Constitution for long being an unwritten tradition. At lunchtime and in the evening you will find more substantial fare.

After you have solved the complex problem of what hot beverage to enjoy from their extensive selection, why not then relax after all that effort with some cheesecake? All the ingredients are sourced from local suppliers and are mostly organic, so you could try either the rainbow trout with fennel puree, confit tomato and asparagus sauce or Denham wood pigeon with creamy celeriac and new season vegetables, two of the stars on their main menu.

The impressive carte of spirits and wines, with probably the best coverage of Austrian wines in London as well as old favourites from France, also has some fine Edelbrand and Weinbrand fruit schnapps, and beers, both draught and bottled, from Steigl and Herter.

No matter how calorie conscious you are, it would be a shame to miss the traditional hot chocolate cake topped with rich sauce and whipped cream, or the hazelnut nougatine, handmade on the premises without using any additives, and served with peach coulis.
