Caffe BaoNecci

516 Green Street, San Francisco, 94133

For more than hundred years, Danilo Bakery has stood in the same spot in San Francisco, its ovens having survived even the disastrous earthquake of 1906. But it was just a few years ago that it was acquired by an Italian family that converted the old bakery into a smart pizzeria, although they continue to create delicious bakes such as croissants, biscotti, panettone and cookies in their café, alongside some of the best Italian coffee at this western edge of the continent. You could drop by for a hearty breakfast, American or Italian style, complete with fluffy omelets and toasted focaccia, but the pannini are not to be missed as is the case with pasta dishes and most importantly the thin crust pizzas, that seem to have come straight from the Tuscan kitchen.

The bakery also has some classic, handmade artisan breads and you could pick up some fresh pagnotta, ciabatta, and baguettes while you're there.

REVIEWS OF Caffe BaoNecci

Gail (10 June 2011)

I live in the neighborhood and have eaten at BaoNecci several times. It is one of my favorites and I recommend it highly. The owners are warm, friendly and the food is wonderful. Their pizzas are thin crusted and delicious and I had a bean and barley soup here today that was wonderful. You won't be sorry you came here.
