Captains Galley Seafood Restaurant
The Harbour, Scrabster, nr Thurso, KW14 7UJ
You can enjoy a thoroughly intimate dining experience at the Capatain's Galley in the former Scrabster Salmon Bothy and Ice House, which was originally built in 1804 and then sympathetically renovated, retaining bags of character from the original features, as a restaurant by Mary and Jim Cowie in 2001. As it is situated on the busy fishing harbour rather naturally they specialise in fish and other seafood, much of it coming directly from the local boats. Dishes might include smoked wild halibut and salmon with salad leaves and a horseradish and lime dressing or Thai fish cake and Vietnamese spring roll all locally sourced fish prepared in house and served with their own sweet chilli jam to start followed by roast darne of hake cooked on the bone and served with nicoise potatoes and a provencal sauce or pan seared scallops resting on a smoked wild salmon risotto and dressed with a balsamic reduction, whilst carnivores are not neglected with an assiette of Caithness reared rare breed pork with chargrilled potatoes, roasted winter root vegetables and port and apple jus.You can enjoy a thoroughly intimate dining experience at the Capatain's Galley in the former Scrabster Salmon Bothy and Ice House, which was originally built in 1804 and then sympathetically renovated, retaining bags of character from the original features, as a restaurant by Mary and Jim Cowie in 2001. REVIEWS OF Captains Galley Seafood Restaurant
Dr Ian F Law (31 August 2011)
We have just enjoyed our fourth meal at the Captains Galley this year. Their list of national awards say's everything about their food and service, but the way in which the ingredients and dishes have been developed over the years in almost a work of culinary art. The Galley has become a world class seafood establishment - deservedly so. I highly advise anyone, with a modicum of taste, to experience a night at the Galley. Top class.
Arnold (9 November 2009)
We read lots of reviews about this restaurant and watched them on TV, so decided to try it ourselves, we had a 300 mile round trip, and had a dining experience that was totally superb and well worth the effort. Mary was the perfect host, and looked after our child while we indulged in the finest, freshest seafood we have ever tasted. I have no hesitation in recommending the Captain's Galley.
