I'd been to Casa Mia a few years ago, and it was another okay Italian restaurant, not bad but nothing special.

Over the last few months, I'd started to hear good things about it, so decided to go for dinner and find out for myself. We were absolutely staggered by the change.

The owners' two sons have apparently taken over the kitchen in the last couple of years, and the difference they have made is amazing. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, it felt like something special, and we weren't disappointed when our meals arrived.

I had a starter of smoked duck with foie gras, a main of red mullet and a pudding of poached pear, and in every way they were excellent. The service was friendly, welcoming and unobtrusive, and the wine recommendation was great.

Casa Mia is now in a different league to what it was, and to any other restaurant I know of in the area. It would not surprise me if a Michelin star was on its way in the future, but in the meantime, highly recommended.
