If you enjoy a really characterful building in the countryside where you are looked after and pampered by the front of house and then enjoy a pleasantly imaginative and well-cooked meal with sensibly priced wines; possibly Viv - in the kitchen - and Cass might just have the answer for you.

Start with hot goat's cheese soufflé served on a salad bed with a walnut and honey dressing or fresh Scottish scallops and pancetta bacon grilled and served on a provençale sauce with a balsamic glaze, then indulge in English lamb loin fillet served on a bed of roasted garlic, glazed carrots and savoy cabbage with pureed potatoes and a roast garlic sauce or fillet of Aberdeen Angus, lightly smoked then grilled and served with stilton and potato dumplings, caramelised shallots and broccoli.

However, keep some space in reserve as few can resist their wonderfully calorific puddings such as apple crumble and custard; lemon tart with black cherries; caramelised pears with ginger ice cream or crème brûlée with a compote of bananas.

Cassons is situated within easy access of Goodwood Racecourse and Fontwell Racecourse, a mere two minutes from Chichester with plenty of parking.
