Castle Brasserie, The Description
The Castle at Hurst is a charming building which houses a traditional gastropub. Visitors would most likely wish it was their own local pub because of its cheery atmosphere, delicious food and amazing range of wines on offer. Locals of course are proud of its presence and people can always be seen enjoying a meal either in the gallery which offers views of the countryside or the panelled Oak Room, which has a lovely open fire.
Some of the tempting fare on offer could be the roast quail salad with lardons and hazelnut dressing; mushroom risotto with truffle oil; roast suckling pig with sage and onion stuffing, baked apple, roast potatoes and jus or a steak and ale pie with hand cut chips. If you're looking for a simple lunch, then the Ploughman's could be an ideal choice, with pork pate, British or French cheese with pickle, apple dressed leaves and homemade bread.
Fixed Lunch
- £12.95 (2 courses) to £15.95 (3 courses)
Your Reviews of Castle Brasserie, The
Eautio (11 November 2008)
We often eat at Castle. It offers the best food around, within a radius of two to three miles, and the unique ambiance adds extra to the experience. This well-renovated historical building is very nice, with a brasserie like environment downstairs, and a very nice environment for grand dining upstairs. The menu is a bit pricier than in pub restaurants, but the quality of the food easily makes up for the difference. There is a fixed and a daily menu, a bit French style, and the fish is often good. Unlike in pub restaurants, their menu is designed with some thought, and the food is cooked. This is not the usual shovel food you get in pubs. Overall, this is a nice place to discover if you are in the vicinity of, say, Windsor or Henley-on-Thames. The Castle is about twenty to twenty five minutes drive from each, but you will need to use a GPS to get there.
