Cha Cha Moon
15-21 Ganton Street, London, W1F 9BN
Hong Kong-born restaurateur Alan Yau replicates the teeming noodle stalls of his home town, with his new venture Cha Cha Moon on Ganton Street. One look at the smart and elegant décor and the communal benches and you decide that he has got the atmosphere right on target. The food however is not restricted to the quintessential noodle soup, that hearty sustenance of the Orient, because the menu features items from all over Eastern Asia, along with beef noodles from Taiwan, Sichuan dumplings and prawn noodles from Penang. The Zhajian mian, a dry noodle dish with minced pork, bamboo shoots and mushrooms, is a favourite among diners while the chicken fen pi, a Shanghainese cold noodle dish that has jasmine tea smoked chicken, wasabi and sweet red onion hits the right notes for inventiveness and novelty.Hong Kong-born restaurateur Alan Yau replicates the teeming noodle stalls of his home town, with his new venture Cha Cha Moon on Ganton Street. REVIEWS OF Cha Cha Moon
Marie (14 September 2008)
This was my fist time at Cha Cha Moon on Friday but things didn’t go well that day. It was 4pm when we arrived, the place was empty, the waitress sat us at one end of a table and we placed our order of three mains and two side dishes. The dishes came one by one, the last one almost never made it. We saw they delivered it to the table behind us who came way after us, and then the wrong order came to our table. I had to tell the waitress three times we didn’t order it, she kept saying we did. In the end, I had to wave for our server, the tall Chinese boy - who was very helpful, I explained and chased up on my mom’s dish at the same time, my husband and I were half way through our food. Mom’s order finally arrived, that was about 30 minutes for a beef. We finished our food and I wanted to place a second order, one of our dish was a Szechwan wonton, my husband had his first bite and was unable to chew through the meat, it was cold and raw pink. As usual we had to go through two waiters before the person who was in charge showed up, he claimed the chicken in the wonton was meant to be pink, it was made with baby chicken and wasn’t raw. He then gave us a fresh order this time and thank god it was all cooked. It didn’t stop there, the bill came and the manager had double charged us on the Szechwan wonton. I don’t understand why we need to pay for our replacement order? Again, we had to ask for the manager. God knows how many times I had to wave for help in Cha Cha Moon. Surely, what we had experienced today was utterly unacceptable, I fully understand the fast food concept, that all dishes are £3.50, customers still expect the food to be cooked properly.
