Chandlers Grande Brasserie Description

One of the blossoming breed of former banks, exchanges and other edifices set up to impress the customers but now serving the infinitely more agreeable purpose of providing locations for restaurants. The grace of the surroundings provides an appropriate setting for the imaginative dishes that have their origins mainly in central and eastern Europe and range from the relatively humble to more sophisticated. Set price lunches are in the £5.75-£8.75 range. The wine list is to the point, with offerings from £10.95 and ten wines by the glass.

Your Reviews of Chandlers Grande Brasserie

Ruby (13 July 2009)

I have eaten at Chandlers on several occasions now and still maintain that the lunch menu is one of the best that is available in Lichfield. I cannot fault the good value and quality of the food, the availability of choice, and the fact that the menu is changed regularly to incorporate seasonal produce.

However, my only criticism would be the slow pace of the service even when the brasserie is quiet! It certainly gives you more than ample time between courses to digest your food.

Gary (6 October 2008)

The food is good, but their service is poor. We arrived on time, but I felt ignored as I stood in front of their desk with two people behind it fiddling around with bits of paper. In the absence of a hello, or smile I announced that I had a booking. They seemed to know this without checking on their bookings. The man, who I took to be the owner, or manager, looked at me with something I felt to be just short of contempt, but we got our table. The remainder of the service was adequate, but a little below par for a restaurant, which was only about half full. I remember thinking it was a little like café service, as there was no consistent server, and no smile. All of us agreed the food was very well presented, tasted good, and portion sizes were well judged. Each course arrived at good intervals. We all had the same dessert, and loved it. The reasonably priced wine we selected was so popular we took the name of it and the liquor coffees after the meal were also good. When our lunch came to an end I could not get any attention from any of the staff to take our payment. They all seemed to be having a chat around the bar, and we were the last to finish. So I went over to the desk, and there was the same discourteous man I had encountered when I arrived, who was again fiddling with bits of paper. He ignored me so I placed our bill on the desk and waited, perhaps a full minute before he deigned to look at me. So a nice looking restaurant with good food and drink, had been let down by their substandard service, and an owner or manager who seems to hate his job, or maybe his customers. I have been there a few times before and enjoyed it, but it seems I am now an irritant to them, so I will not be going back.
