Charlie Chan Description
What a fun night we had at Charlie Chan's on Regent Street! Our daughter with husband and their two boys descended on the place early out of deference to the boys - so early we had to break out of Evensong at King's College (try doing it some time).
They were ready and not entirely waiting but we soon joined in.
A splendidly wide menu set the tone for the evening, with cheerful service and blind eyes turned when necessary.
The décor is a bit 'sixties', which made me think of my misspent youth. The food was superb and widely diverse as only Chinese food at its best can be, and there were some quite unusual dishes on offer. The galleria level where we were seated also houses a small dance floor which at that early hour was untenanted, but could help one make a bit more room should the need arise later.
Chopsticks were to hand, if one felt so challenged - I always do and never fail to be amazed how easy they are.
The bill came to around £100 for all of us and we eat well. Above all this is one of the few occasions when having eaten Chinese I still felt replete well after the event. A place to return to.

Your Reviews of Charlie Chan
Bob Pilcher (9 February 2008)
Charlie Chan has a noodle bar in the evenings, but during the day serves the only dim sum available in Cambridge. The service can be better. The dim sum is authentic and the whole restaurant will feel as if you are in Hong Kong - there will probably only be a couple of tables of non-Chinese. Tea is served by the pot, with refills being free. It is very popular among the Chinese community in Cambridge.
David Davies (7 February 2008)
Very good, slightly pricey, Chinese restaurant, possibly only bettered by Ying Wah. Weekends are great especially if the band is playing. Cabaret music, to go with your dining - what could be better.
Definitely worth a visit, even despite the fact that some staff very occasionally have been surly and unhelpful.
