Chelsea Kitchen

451 Fulham Road, London, SW10 9UZ

The original Chelsea Kitchen on King's Road stuck a chord with locals for its low prices and quality food, and the same trend is followed at its current location on Fulham Road; it may also be strategic in one sense as the Chelsea Football Club and the Fulham Broadway tube station are positioned nearby. Inside it's bustling with diners and the décor is more about being functional than showy, done in up in soothing whites and neutral hues. Avocado prawns, smoked salmon marinated in dill and mustard, calamari fritti and fried courgettes in a spicy dipping make for a fine start. Main courses are impressive too, roast turkey with trimmings, Mexican chicken, beef burgundy, escalope Neapolitana and curried eggs, or even steaks, liver and bacon, and pork chops with apple sauce from the grill.

Nothing can beat the comfort of homemade desserts to finish especially if it is a tiramisu, or a blackcurrant and apple pie served with custard.

REVIEWS OF Chelsea Kitchen

Chris Howell (30 December 2009)

The Chelsea Kitchen is back having moved from the King's Road, where it was established in 1962. It is now firmly rooted on the Fulham Road not far from Chelsea's Football Stadium and Fulham Broadway Underground. The Chelsea Kitchen does what it says on the tin, or in this case its website - provides traditional homemade food at affordable prices. I first called in there by chance as the regular restaurant I frequent when in London was closed for refurbishment. Now it is a question of one restaurant's gain being another restaurant's loss. I was totally captivated. There is everything to like about this treasure. The lunch and dinner menu was extensive and varied catering for any number of individual tastes. The food comes freshly prepared and cooked and nicely presented. The staff are attentive and considerate and the surroundings are cheerful, light and airy. Oh and the seats are comfortable as well. I now visit the Chelsea Kitchen whenever I am in London and without exception every time I visit the place it is full of happy diners. Although the food is competitively priced it also scores highly for those with a discerning palate. Go there and enjoy!
