Chepstow, The

The Chepstow received a rather dramatic facelift in October 2002 when it was taken over by the Thomas and Carter group, since then its popularity has continued to soar. It's a great traditional looking pub from the outside, but the interior has a very trendy feel to it, with plenty of comfortable leather sofas to relax on.

Whilst it's popular for Sunday brunch, quality sandwiches and snacks, or just a mid morning coffee, the evening meals are when The Chepstow really comes into its own. The menu changes regularly and dishes on offer include the likes of Thai salmon fishcakes with rocket and sweet chilli sauce, and Parma ham, buffalo mozzarella and roasted figs drizzled with eight year old balsamic vinegar. Main courses follow a largely classical pattern with wild boar and apple sausages, and beer battered cod with mushy peas, spinach, fries and tartar sauce. Finish with a good variety of homemade desserts like bread and butter pudding, crème brûlée and apple tart.
