China Garden

88-91 Preston Street, Brighton, BN1 2HG

China Garden is a fashionable and popular restaurant situated near the West Pier within strolling distance of the seafront. It features plush interiors, large spaces and is famous for its Cantonese and Pekinese cuisine. It's worth arriving early on Saturday and Sunday, when the place gets packed out, to nibble on the highly regarded dim sum. During the day, expect the place to be crowded with local Chinese, tucking into all manner of authentic morsels such as sesame toast, crispy won ton, spare ribs in sticky sauce and fried seaweed with brown sugar. During the evening customers mill in to enjoy familiar options along the lines of lemon chicken batter fried with sticky lemon sauce, shredded duck with pancakes, paraphernalia, beef in sticky red sauce and mixed vegetables with big prawns and special fried rice.

The service is attentive and friendly and to add a touch of culture to the proceedings they even have a pianist.

REVIEWS OF China Garden

Clementine (3 February 2011)

China Garden is one of the best Chinese restaurants in England. It is not small but very accommodating, has lush interiors, grand piano with pianist, marble bathrooms and live floral decorations. The waiting staff wear black tie uniforms and are polite. The food is delicious and includes fresh lobsters and scallops. Some dishes are too big for me so I often share it with a friend paying just £6.50 for the two of us.

Chris Stuart (30 November 2008)

I first visited this place in 1978 and it has since grown and prospered. Without doubt it is the finest restaurant of its kind in South East England. The dim sum is particularly recommended.
