China Sun Description

On Bury New Road in Prestwich, a new Chinese restaurant has started making oriental waves, creating an excited anticipation amongst locals with its friendly ambience, cheerful staff and above all, top quality food. Fresh ingredients and a skilled hand create some marvellous dishes which have become popular and well loved in the short space of time that they have been up and running.

Amongst soups, the crab meat and sweet corn is an enticing combination of the traditional with contemporary while the range of appetisers includes aromatic crispy duck with pancakes or sesame prawns on toast. Main courses demonstrate interesting variations with sizzling fillet steaks with green pepper in black bean sauce, tasty noodle and rice dishes and numerous stir fries. A tropical melon boat vies with the more well known banana fritters to provide a sweet ending to the meal. The wine list is a balanced compilation of some French and Old World selections that serves China Sun well.

I dined there on a Sunday in September for lunch. I had Peking wings as starters, chicken in black bean as main course with a rice side, and cheesecake as dessert. The cost was £9.99 from the fixed price menu. I had two glasses of the house red and a pot of Chinese tea to finish the total cost for my meal was under £19.00 and I was very happy. The food was very good, it was well cooked and the flavours were possibly the best I have tasted in a Manchester Chinese restaurant for quite some time. I had expected very small portions for this price but the portion size was actually quite large and there was no shortage of chicken in my main. The house red was a Merlot and was of a good standard for a house wine. The service was friendly and fast but I did notice one or two minor clumsy mistakes by the waiter, probably due to inexperience. This is a restaurant I will return to, as I really want to try their fillet steak sizzler which understandably is not available on the set price menu.
