Chouette, La Description
Quite a character restaurant here. Frederic Desmette is the chef, waiter, barman - Oh! Yes - and the owner. He combines all these roles with an élan that is both admirable and wise. Since wisdom is an attribute normally associated with owls it is hardly surprising that the place is called La Chouette.
The décor is friendly and relaxing and pink predominates. The kitchen calls for the best of fresh ingredients, including fish and game, with desserts being something of a lucky (but seldom disappointing) dip.
Lunch of three courses is an absolute snip at £11. In the absence of too much in the way of Belgian availability, France predominates on the wine list, including two house wines at £11.50 a bottle.

This was such a pleasant change from the other boring restaurants in the area. The food was excellent and well priced, although the wine list, extensive as it was, was a little pricey. We had a wonderful time and Frederic's repartee was very enjoyable and certainly added to the experience. We will definitely be going back.

We went there yesterday without knowing anything about the restaurant - La Chouette was recommended to us by a friend. The food and service were second to none. This place is one of the last non-chain restaurants and you can really taste the difference of a quality chef’s cooking at a reasonable price. This is a hidden treasure that we will be visiting again.
