Chowki Description
Chowki, sister restaurant to the highly successful Mela on nearby Shaftesbury Avenue, is a modern Indian restaurant, but fear not, its elegant appearance and handy Piccadilly location doesn't mean high prices. Here you'll find a menu that changes on a monthly basis to concentrate on different cuisine styles around India.
The home-style dishes include the likes of crispy fried fish fillets marinated in tamarind pulp, or prawns with peppercorns and garlic. Follow this with fish poached in fennel, coconut and onion based curry or spicy lamb. For ease of ordering, go for a regional feast of three courses with a bottle of house wine - it's an absolute snip for London.

I went to Chowki a few months back and was very impressed. The food was delicious, stylishly presented (their prawns are particularly scrummy) and amazingly good value (I had the regional feast at £10.95/head for a three course meal). In a way it puts the standard 'curry houses' (which might well be more expensive) to shame - the regional menus were unusual and inviting (and I suspect, a good deal more authentic than usual Indian restaurants) and the dishes were freshly prepared and well presented. I am a fan and will go back!!
