At one time all that could be heard at this location was the chugging of trains but this has now been replaced with the clinking of cutlery. Chu Chus's history is just about as interesting as its name; housed in a lovingly restored Ayrshire train station building, this sleek café restaurant is now decked out in pastel shades offset by the dark furniture and four open coal fires.

Light bites at lunchtime include skewered tiger prawns, sandwiches, paninis or canapés, or pork chops and poached supreme of Ayrshire chicken for the hearty eater. Little diners could choose a ploughman's lunch or bubble and squeak with creamy mashed potatoes, topped with gravy. There's Pullman dining on Fridays and Saturdays often accompanied by soothing piano music.

Who would not like a steaming hot cup of Lapsang Suchong or Earl Grey or their renowned Italian style coffee complemented by a traditional Ayrshire tablet? This could just be the ticket to a relaxed time at Chu Chus.
