Chung Ying - Wrottesley Street

16-18 Wrottesley Street, Birmingham, B5 4RT

Bang opposite the Arcadian Centre, Chung Ying on the corner of Wrottesley Street and Ladywell Walk introduced authentic Cantonese cuisine to the Midlands in 1981 and hasn't looked back since. Popular with both locals and visitors for its diverse and extensive range, its comfortable laid back ambience makes it just the place for a leisurely lunch or dinner. While most of the dishes cover familiar Cantonese territory, the more esoterically minded could seek out ox tripe, fish heads or steamed pork pie with dried squid. Conventional options include prawn crackers, deep fried chicken wings, spare ribs Peking style, shredded squid and vegetarian spring rolls, for a start. The good food fest continues with sweet and sour pork, fried sliced beef with oyster sauce, crispy fried chicken, barbecued roast duck, fish in black bean sauce, mixed vegetables with cashewnuts and yeung chow fried rice.

Of course, you could make a meal of the large dim sum selection, numbering over 100 choices, itself.

REVIEWS OF Chung Ying - Wrottesley Street

Julie Murphy (22 February 2010)

We have visited lots of Chinese restaurants and have only found one that we would go back to - and this is it. The food is fantastic and has such a variety. It is a must eat in restaurant.

Meganb (20 October 2009)

We have visited this restaurant in Chinatown several times and it is always our first choice when eating Chinese food in Birmingham. The prices are reasonable, the food and service are excellent, and the dim sum selection is enormous. You will be spoilt for choice. The décor may be a little dated, but don't let that put you off. This is a very good restaurant, especially if you like to lunch on dim sum, and it is very good value.
