Church Restaurant, The Description
The Church Bar and Restaurant, Northampton, has a long history as the oldest secular building in the region. It came into being as St John's Hospital in eleven-hundred-forty and since then it has become a soldiers' burial ground, was confiscated during the Reformation, became part of Northampton's first railway station, and was re-consecrated as a Catholic Church before its present incarnation as a restaurant.
Start with a smoked and poached salmon tian with cherry tomato compote and a bitter leaf salad and peach, mozzarella, pea and mint salad dressed lightly with olive oil and lemon juice. For main course consider oven roasted pangasius fillet, a fish similar to cod, wrapped in pancetta, with spring onion and rocket risotto and British veal chop with new potatoes, a red onion, tomato and olive salad, and citrus, parsley and garlic gremolata. End with a sticky toffee pudding and banoffee vanilla cheesecake.
Fixed Lunch

Many thanks to The Church Restaurant for making my mum's birthday so special, we all had a wonderful evening. The food and the service were excellent and we will definitely come back.
Mark BD (22 February 2009)
A group of nine of us went to the Church recently and I have to say that I was distinctly under whelmed. I can only speak for my own meal, but found that a lack of mint and only tinned peaches in my peach, mozzarella, pea and mint salad left mainly just underdressed lettuce to 'enjoy', and whilst my beef, mushroom and Stilton pie was delicious, the mash with which it was served seemed to only contain potato and no form of cream, butter or seasoning. An uninspiring cheese board followed, as did a bill for over £32 per head, which in no way represented value for money for me. Only a week earlier I had eaten in Newcastle at another excellent restaurant, whose set £15 three-course menu trampled all over the frankly insipid fayre offered at the Church. This was my first visit to the Church, and definitely my last.
