Cider House Restaurant & Bar, The
Pumpbottom Farm, Birdham Road, Appledram, nr Chichester, PO20 7EH
Chef/Owner Tony and his wife Julia have taken a cow shed on a farm and created a charming, sophisticated restaurant. The Cider House accommodates both intimate dinners indoors as well as providing al fresco dining during summer. Tony, who hosted his own television show entitled "Dish'in it out" in New Zealand, is passionate about food, and Julia makes sure the guests are comfortable and the service is top quality. The understated menu changes a little bit all the time making the most of fresh seasonal produce and the fare is served in a style that is stunning, yet simple and uncomplicated. Honey and lime cured Scottish salmons for starters followed by roasted rump of Southdowns lamb and a sweet ending in nutmeg baked rice pudding is one route to a satisfying meal there.Chef/Owner Tony and his wife Julia have taken a cow shed on a farm and created a charming, sophisticated restaurant. REVIEWS OF Cider House Restaurant & Bar, The
Michelle and Marco (11 April 2010)
We had a lovely Saturday lunch and were lucky with the weather so we chose to sit outside. The menu was good and had loads of choices. We shared a bowl of huge olives fighting over the pickled garlic after which we had fresh home-made bread and shared a bowl of mussels that were enormous. To finish we shared a crème- brule and washed it all down with a Pinot Grigio. The service was relaxed and friendly and we loved every minute, we can't wait to return.
Trevor Woodgate (28 July 2009)
It was a nice, welcoming place, supreme service, wonderful drinks, nibbles, starters and coffee, with all top quality, tasty, ingredients. They have an imaginative selection of meat, fish and a few vegetarian dishes, that aren't your run of the mill, which initially drew us in. We had an issue with one heavily over seasoned main course, unfortunately the kitchen was closed for the evening, but given that, the issue was professionally and courteously dealt with. Overall a very enjoyable evening, and had we not have had that main dish this would be a perfect review. Thanks for a lovely evening.
