Cigala Bar & Restaurant

54 Lamb's Conduit Street, London, WC1N 3LW

It's not too often in London that you find a street dotted with diverse and eccentric shops, and left untouched by global brands. Lamb's Conduit Street is one such place and Cigala Bar and Restaurant benefits from a location such as this, offering diners plenty of choices on the daily changing menu. In its clean, crisp setting produces a tranquil effect. The menus are distinctive and exciting to suit any mood or time of the day, take the tapas carte for instance; here you'd notice seafood soup, beetroot and rocket salad with cebreiro cheese, marinated silverback anchovies and pan-fried black pudding with migas and a fried egg. The à la carte line up is certainly impressive with oak smoked beef with caperberries, and char grilled marinated organic Essex chicken 'piri-piri' style with mixed salad.

The after-dinner list encompasses whisky ice cream cake and pears poached in red wine, but much thought has clearly gone into the creation of Cigalo's wine list that includes a notable collection of Sherry.

REVIEWS OF Cigala Bar & Restaurant

Tony B (1 November 2004)

This place is a shambles. On the 29th of October, I made a reservation for the following day with the duty manager. I stated that I would be using a Good Food Guide voucher, worth £5 off the final bill (Cigala is listed in the 2005 edition as a subscriber to this offer).

The next day, I travelled all the way from Lewisham to this Holborn restaurant and was promptly told they would not accept this offer as they "knew nothing about it".

They had my contact details, yet didn't see fit to call me and let me know that they had changed their mind about participating in this agreement. Trying to find alternative restaurants on a Saturday night is not easy. I found their smug attitudes and superiority nauseating. The pony-tailed staff think that the "buzz" this place generates allows them licence to treat customers with contempt.
