Sitting cheek-by-jowl with the city's bustling centre and close to the Bristol Temple Meads railway station, the 2 AA rosette City Café offers contemporary European cuisine and a stylish terrace for al fresco dining. Choose from starters such as brandade of smoked haddock coupled with spring vegetables and soft herbs or grilled spring Roland lamb cutlets with honey and mustard dressing. The garden menu is tailor made for vegetarians and includes dishes like artichoke and watercress gnocchi with blue cheese sauce and wild mushroom risotto. Finish with a sticky toffee pudding or stem ginger soufflé. The well-chosen drinks list is available by the glass.

My husband and I have had dinner at City Inn three times in the last year or so, and have relished each and every meal we have had there. If you judge a restaurant by its plentiful portions then this probably isn't the place for you, but if you enjoy a gourmet experience without totally breaking the bank then this place is a must.
The service was impeccable-very attentive, prompt and friendly, and ready to give recommendations if you're not sure about what to order. The menu itself is always changing but it's always varied and leaves me with my mouth watering and unsure about which delicious-sounding dish I should go for. Neither my husband nor I have ever been disappointed with our meals there-the food was beautifully prepared and presented. And the combination of flavours in each dish has always been spot-on. I particularly enjoyed the desserts as they were so creatively presented, it tasted like heaven and you could be sure you'll not come across anything similar anywhere else!
