Clanfield Tavern, The Description
In the heart of the Cotswolds in the pretty village of Clanfield, The Clanfield Tavern has been welcoming locals and travellers since 1610. Pale walls give the traditional oak-beamed dining room a modern feel, while the bright conservatory has an open, airy atmosphere and a striking wine wall.
Hearty British comfort food, from steak and kidney pudding to homemade fish pie and fresh sandwiches and salad form the backbone of the restaurant menu. Alternatively for something a little more elaborate try the deep fried tiger prawns with crispy vegetables or wild rabbit and bacon terrine with Shilbrook Manor Medlar jelly. If you are fortunate, you may even find Gloucester Old Spot pork and quails egg on the bar to nibble on.

I had been to the pub following its recent change in ownership and was delighted to see that what was once a much loved pub was on its way back to the level it used to be. When I had been there, I found out that the conservatory was under much needed renovation and so ate in the original part of the building. The food that came out was obviously put together by someone who cares about their ingredients, we were informed that the meat was sourced mostly from Foxbury Farm in Brize Norton and they bought cheese from a man in the village. I ate the Steak and my partner had the fish cake both were cooked perfectly and were absolutely delicious. We were both too full to eat dessert but I did see a lovely lemon posset leaving the kitchen. The pub was clearly going back to great food, good ingredients and cooking with care. We would definitely be back.
