Cliffhanger Cafe Description

Cliffhanger, which sounds rather like a location out of a Bond film, occupies what must be one of the most scenic settings on the South Coast, and is predictably popular at all times of the year, with opening hours from 8am to 10pm.

So start your day with a brisk walk and an 'over the top' breakfast which contains all those things that connoisseurs of this great meal dream about. And they do kippers, lovely butter-glazed and served with wholemeal bread. Throughout the day the various focal points of good living come and go, with lite bites to hand, the vegetable plot for those of that inclination, including a delicious Thai green curry, or a vegetable lasagne.

Then at 6pm the mood changes and an evening menu, normally changed every two weeks or so, comes to the fore, giving ample encouragement to those who find a combination of the food, the views and the service so compelling that future visits are essential.

Starters of prawn and crayfish cocktail or crispy duck pancakes with pesto tagliatelle make frequent menu appearances, to be followed by around 10 choices from the mains menu, which could include steak and ale pie with chips and vegetables, char grilled steak with mushroom, tomato, peppercorn sauce and chips, or salmon fishcakes with tartar sauce, served with yet more chips.

Sticky toffee pudding arrives with ice cream, or perhaps chocolate and cherry roulade with chocolate sauce, could be amongst the desserts. A children's menu offers such delights as sausage, fish and beef burgers, all with chips, of which Mr Oliver down at his seaside restaurant further west in Cornwall might well not approve. Just wait till he sees the childrens' desserts.

Your Reviews of Cliffhanger Cafe

Roger (23 November 2009)

After eating at the Cliffhanger several times I have become quite addicted. The food is magnificent, and at an excellent price as well. The service is also excellent with friendly staff. I have been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner and all have been equally as good. Not to mention the amazing selection of cakes. I would recommend Cliffhanger to anyone.
