Clocktower - Ongar

If big restaurant chains have their loyalists, so do the little ones, seldom failing to please the palates of hungry diners. The recently renovated Clocktower in quaint Ongar is one such restaurant that has been a local place of refreshment for hungry inhabitants for more than hundred years.

Their dedication to providing delicious food shines through simple dishes such as chicken liver terrine with red onion marmalade and toast, grilled fishcakes, lemon grass infused baked sea bass, or penne pasta tossed with vine tomatoes, basil and garlic. A traditional Sunday roast is served from 12 noon, and if you have any dietary requirements, they will be happy to help. The childrens' menu costs just £6 for mains, soft drink and ice cream, and to keep the little ones entertained, they have puzzle sheets too.

A cosy outdoor area, where customers can relax over a pre dinner aperitif or with coffee afterwards, is now open. A lively wine list should meet most tastes.
