Clytha Arms, The Description
This much-awarded pub/restaurant manages successfully to be all things to all people. So you won't find the locals grumbling about the foodies, some of whom are quite likely to be found sampling the excellent beers that are kept before they sit down to discover what Andrew and Sarah Canning have on offer for them. This might include black pasta with cockles and bacon. A real touch of genius is the Carribbean fruit curry with prawns, combining all the flavours of a gifted curry without losing the delicate qualities of the prawns. An enterprising wine list with good low-cost choices and ten house wines at £11.95 or £2.20 a glass.

Your Reviews of Clytha Arms, The
Angela (1 December 2008)
I went there for Sunday lunch yesterday with four other members of my family. The service was very slow and the food was dreadful. Two of the main meals turned up after fifty minutes, but the other three of us had to wait. When they did turn up the vegetable was cold. I had the beef, which had to be taken back because it was pouring with blood even though I had asked for it to be well done. We had treacle pudding for dessert, but it was stone cold so they kindly put it in the microwave, and it was hot, but like rubber. We paid over £100.00 for the five of us, which would have been better spent else where.

We booked a table for 8pm but eventually sat down to eat at 8.50pm and the place was hardly busy. The steak was good but I wish they did not wrap it in filo pastry and then burn it. There was an odd choice of vegetables with some soggy sugar snap peas and hard fennel. The puddings were uneventful. We had to wait 25 minutes for the bill. At no point were we offered any drinks or a wine list or even an excuse for the incredible delay.
