Coconut Lagoon - Stratford-Upon-Avon Description
Laid-back and congenial, The Coconut Lagoon is a colourful restaurant with a cosmopolitan menu of south Indian dishes in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon. Walls are painted in a restful jade, while comfortable cane chairs and pale wooden flooring add to the relaxing ambience.
Their cuisine subtly explores diverse colonial influences of the invasions by the Portuguese, Dutch, French and British on provincial cooking. This restaurant recreates aromatic specialities from the South Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Goa. These areas have long coastlines and generously use rice, seafood and coconut.

This restaurant was an award winner, but how things have gone down hill. The toilet facilities were dirty and the kitchen was also of very poor hygiene. The service was slow, and the food, although tasty, was of such small proportions, I felt I needed another meal after somewhere cleaner and with better service.

I really enjoyed this restaurant in 2004. The food, whilst of Indian origin, was unique and delicious and the piano player was friendly and added to the ambience. I was looking forward to coming back in 2008 but what a disappointment! Service was extremely slow, taking two and a half hours for a three course meal. The food was unremarkable and didn't represent value for money. The prawn dish in our 'feast' for six people had just one prawn per person.
