Comfort Food Co, The

I ate there a couple of months ago, and I have to agree entirely with what a couple of reviewers have said about the food being overpriced. The food was home cooked and pleasant, but no better, nothing special whatsoever. It is the sort of place that might stand out a little in a small town setting, but surely can't compete in a city. It is the sort of food you could do yourself if you could be bothered, but for the price we expected something really professional, and were thoroughly disappointed. It is sad, because we can only afford to spend this money on a meal once every few months, and I felt that we had wasted our opportunity of a great meal on this occasion. The service was poor too, just to top things off. There are so many brilliant restaurants in Newcastle; we won't feel any need to return to this mediocre one.

I have eaten at The Comfort Food Co on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The restaurant was cosy and comfortable, and in a brilliant location for hotels and the train station. The atmosphere was welcoming and informal; the staff went out of their way to ensure that our questions about the menu were answered and that we had a great time. As for the food - locally sourced, quality produce is such a rarity in Newcastle and I am happy to say that Comfort Food's menu was top notch. Beautifully cooked and presented, the quality of the ingredients in the pork belly and the venison dish really shone through. On the whole, a fantastic evening and I can't wait to go back.
