Costa Dorada Description

Like the name suggests, Costa Dorada on Hanway Street is a Spanish restaurant and tapas bar, offering authentic cuisine complemented by some of the best and carefully selected red and white wines - imported from Spain's best vineyards.

The food and drink matches the mood - live performances by talented flamenco dancers adds a dash of Spanish culture to the warm and friendly atmosphere and this party goes on from sunset all the way until three in the morning. The venue is a fun setting for a great night out with friends and ideal for parties and wedding receptions too.

The simple but stylish restaurant is decorated in shades of chocolate brown, maroon and beige. Black and white pictures speak of tales from old. Their tapas menu is based on using fresh produce and innovative ideas, to create popular dishes that can be a light snack or a full-blown gastronomic extravaganza.

Expect to find dishes that range from simple ones such as bravas, potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce or artichokes with Serrano ham to more satisfying options like Galician style octopus, king prawns with wild mushrooms, cold meats and traditional tortillas.

The a la carte menu offers the famous paella to suit vegetarians and seafood enthusiasts. Other choices include sea bream in basil and citrus sauce; lamb cutlets with oven baked potatoes and grilled Mediterranean vegetables, Balsamic vinegar and rocket.

Desserts on offer comprise of apple and apricot crumble and higos al tropico, figs cooked in red wine and served with ice cream among other options, to end that Spanish party.

Your Reviews of Costa Dorada

Fergus (30 June 2005)

Not really a restaurant, more of an all-encompassing evening experience: culture, food, alcohol, entertainment, singing, dancing AND it's open until 3am. Really very hard to pick a more fulfilling night out - some very seriously talented flamenco dancers putting on a floorshow in a cabaret-style atmosphere. Loads of sultry native Spaniards and Latin Americans keep this place feeling authentic [it helps if you speak Spanish, particularly when ordering food and drink at the crowded bar as all of the staff are Spanish with varying degrees of English capability]. The audience is very mixed in age - trendy young Colombian retail workers sat next to wizened old Spanish grannies, and absolutely NO attitude. Their interactivity with the dancers is genuinely heartfelt approval [no rubbish here - it's a showcase for up-and-coming talent and established performers alike]. Don't let the shabbiness of Hanway Street put you off - its seeming dereliction adds to the surprise of descending into the basement to find such a vibrant atmosphere. For a pre-Dorada drink, try the basement bar of Bradley's, or the even more eclectic "Sevilla Mia" right opposite. Top Marks all round - affordable, brilliantly unencumbered talent and entertainment. GO.

It would be a sad commentary on affairs if a national institution such as The Dorchester was anything less than top of the form in any of its departments. Whilst it may therefore come as no surprise ...
