First visit to Cote St Martin's Lane: Arrived (family group)around 6 p.m on a Sunday evening, having checked out loads of alternative options in the area nearby-Covent Garden etc. First impressions: 1) Pre-theatre fixed price available at great price (£11.70, 2 course, £13.65, 3 course until 7p.m 2 Clean, attractively lit cosy interior 3) promptly welcomed and shown to table by friendly staff. Wine: very acceptable house Shiraz for £14.50. Food:Excellent pea, mint and courgette soup dressed with seeds and olive oil, tender minute steak, perfectly fried fillet of hake, unctious chocolate pot for pudding. Overall impression: Brilliant. I understand that this is part of a chain but there is no sign of the usual corner cutting and poor service associated with chains. A delightful dining experience in the centre of the West End for a bargain price that would be inconceivable in any other European capital or major city. We will return whenever we can.
