Run by members of the Conran clan and actually owned by Tom Conran, The Cow is a small, intimate pub and restaurant, and despite its size, it's remarkably light, while the white linen table cloths and napkins give this place a classic feel.

The food tends to follow a similar theme, with dishes like minestrone soup with pesto, Irish rock oysters and ham hock terrine with chutney, pickles and toast. Main courses may offer confit duck leg with dauphinoise potatoes, peas and broad beans, and haunch of venison with potato rösti, baby turnips and port jus. It's also comforting to see familiar choices like apricot tart with crème fraîche and chocolate and vanilla semifreddo on the dessert menu.

The Cow stocks a good range of beers and spirits, and the New World is well represented on the wine list that benefits from some sensible mark-ups.
